Jerry J. Shackette is an Associate Professor at The College of the Ozarks.
He has taught courses in food service management, lodging management, tourism, leadership,
meeting planning, marketing, international hospitality operations, and hospitality technology.
He is a 2003 recipient of a teaching excellence award.
Prior to teaching he spent more than
twenty years working and consulting in the hospitality industry. Jerry has held management
positions in the lodging field as Hotel Sales Manager, Director of Public Relations, and
General Manager. Formally a partner in a hospitality consulting enterprise and the executive
vice president of a marketing firm, his professional consulting experience has been at the
“street level”; working with unit and multi-unit managers as they dealt with the strategic
and operational challenges of management, marketing, and operations. He has opened small
hotels, managed sales and marketing programs, and trained hundreds of hospitality workers in
the fundamentals of theirs jobs. Jerry has been actively involved in proprietary business
research, including market studies, wage and salary studies, and hospitality employee attitude studies.
