Patti J. Shock, CPCE, is a professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and chairs
the Tourism and Convention Administration Department in the Harrah Hotel College. She
teaches Catering on-campus and online. She has co-authored three textbooks in the catering
field, including On-Premise Catering for Hotels, Convention & Conference Centers and Clubs.
She has received numerous recognitions, including the Lifetime Professional Achievement Award
from the Professional Convention Management Association, the Distinguished Service Award from
the International Association for Exposition Management, and the Achievement Award from the
Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education. She was named one of the 10 most
powerful women in the meetings industry by Successful Meetings magazine, one of the 25 most
influential people in the convention industry by Meeting News magazine and one of the most
influential women in Southern Nevada by InBusiness Las Vegas.
She is a frequent speaker at industry meetings, including Meeting Professionals International,
Club Managers Association of America and the National Association of Catering Executives. She
chairs the PCMA Faculty Task Force, and she chaired the APEX Terminology Panel for the Convention
Industry Council.
